WACA's Opening - new safety measures in place

WACA Center for the Arts is run by WACA and the building is used only for WACA camps and programs. Due to our programs being small and having a large field and outdoor area that is also for our use we are able to effectively manage the needed safety precautions and still host a wonderful camp program.

We are building cubbies where each student/camper/actor will place their personal belongs. There will be a container in each cubby with pencils, markers, paper, highlighter that will be assigned to that student ONLY. We will be placing marks on the floors to keep social distancing guidelines for learning dances and for singing.
Masks will be required whenever possible. Singing is not possible with masks and we are going to use face shields when not outdoors. We will also be placing chairs on marked spots in a safe distance from each performer.  Whenever possible we will host classes outdoors. Temperatures must be less than 85 degrees and not raining. We will have additional water and shade stations available outdoors. Windows will be kept open in the facility when it is possible.

We have two sinks in each bathroom. In addition, we have a handwashing sink in our main activity room as well as our kitchen. Sanitizer or handwashing will be required at the beginning of each activity rotation.

Check In-

At the check in desk a staff member will take an electronic reading of every camper. Any camper above 99.5 will not be allowed to attend camp that day or until 24 hours fever free. There will be a list of symptoms and when your child is signed in part of that is your signing that your child is not displaying those symptoms before checking into camp that morning or the day prior. Masks are required when entering the building. We will have face shields for campers that do not have them. We ask that campers supply their own masks.

Sanitizer or handwashing will be REQUIRED when entering the building and when exiting.   Sanitizer or handwashing will be required at the beginning of each activity rotation.

The maximum number of students in our musical theater program will be 25 for Seussical Kids and 29 for Moana Jr. Groups will be 10 or less. Visual Art Camps accept a maximum of 12 students. Our camps maintain a maximum ratio of 6:1 (Students to staff). Staff will wear masks whenever possible. Singing sections will require our staff to use face shields.

The regular camp forms and links will be sent shortly. WACA is grassroots, self-funded not for profit that relies heavily on our affordable summer programs to meet the financial needs of our organization. With volunteers heading our administration WACA Center for the Arts uses program fess to pay our artistic and camp staff, supplies, show rights, insurance, and all administration costs. If you are unable to attend camp this year, we would greatly appreciate applying your camp fees to another WACA program or as a gift card you may save for future use, including next summer.

We are following the CDC, State of Maryland DHMH and Anne Arundel County Health Department guidelines to provide a safe and fun summer camp experience for your children. With added guidance from the American Camping Association (ACA) and a local pediatrician our safety measures and small program size will give your kids time to make friends, learn need skills, and express themselves through the arts.
